Embracing Grace

Although a sack of rocks has been sitting on my chest for a few weeks, I will embrace grace today and keep walking. ♦

"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy,
and find grace to help in time of need." - Hebrews 4:16

Childlike Faith

As everyone who reads my blog knows, I love keeping my niece's little girl, Ainsley. She brightens my world every time I keep her, and I kept her Tuesday night. It was only for a few hours, but it was packed with fun.

Around 8:30, her mom sent me a text saying that she would be at my house soon. Ainsley and I were sitting in the middle of the living room floor. She was dumping Cheerios out of a bowl as fast as I could put them in. We were laughing and being silly, and in the midst of our silliness, I heard a faint tapping on the front door. As faint as it was, it still frightened Ainsley, and she immediately raised her little arms for me to take her, her face very troubled, indeed. Of course, I gathered her close and whispered that her mommy was at the door. She felt safe in my arms and a smile quickly followed.

As they backed down the driveway, I waved goodbye and thought of how much like little Ainsley I had been over the past two weeks. Frightened by an unexpected knock at the door, you might say. Overwhelmed by situations I couldn't control. And how, during my emotional days of anxious thinking, I had reached out to God, needing assurance that he was with me and I was safe.

He didn't disappoint, of course. Like the good Father he is, he took me in his arms and whispered peace to my troubled soul. No, I can't know what tomorrow will bringwhether sunshine, clouds or rainbut I do know that God is with me, and that's enough for me to know. ♦
